Turner painted The Grand Canal, Venice, on his second visit to the city. This painting was a part of the series the painter made showing the city in different views, capturing stunning scenes through his dynamic lens of romance and sensibility <a href=\"https:\/\/findtonapp.com\/\">https:\/\/findtonapp.com\/<\/a>. The artist was known for his incredible knowledge of using colors and dramatic light to portray nature beautifully.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the best paintings of Edouard Manet and also one of his last major works. Putting his creativity to best use, the artist represents the bustling ambiance of significant cabarets and music halls of Paris in this painting. A blur of fine lines and artistry that doesn\u2019t truly belong to one medium or the other. Cinema and painting hold their own respective places in artistic history and yet they share many of the same objectives, leaving their boundaries ambiguous and open to interpretation.<\/p>\n<p>The great art house filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni hated when his peers talked about \u201cwriting a film.\u201d He preferred the term \u201cpainting a film\u201d\u2014telling a story not with words, but colors, camera angles, and meticulously composed frames.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Storaro is clearly fascinated by painting: Writing With Light contains reproductions of over 100 paintings, and one of these, Caravaggio\u2019s The Calling of St. Matthew (1599\u20131600), helped inspire him to go into cinematography. In Apocalypse Now (arguably his most visually striking film, though it has some stiff competition), he clothes the actors in sickly yellowish light and baleful shadows, producing a chiaroscuro that would have made Caravaggio jealous. For Storaro, as with Caravaggio, the play of light and shadow isn\u2019t just a nifty effect, but a way of suggesting a figure\u2019s state of mind. Apocalypse Now\u2019s Colonel Kurtz straddles madness and civilization, and Storaro\u2019s bold lighting choices render the character\u2019s inner decay visible on-screen.<\/p>\n<p>Cinematographers don\u2019t only recreate specific images, of course; sometimes, they turn to a broader group of paintings in search of a mood no movie has managed to capture. The period film Barry Lyndon (1975) was shot by John Alcott, the gifted cinematographer behind two science-fiction classics, 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange. In fact, it can be useful to think of Barry Lyndon as an sci-fi adventure set in the 18th century. To convey an era at once familiar and \u201cother,\u201d Alcott immersed himself in the landscapes of Thomas Gainsborough, born in 1727, as well as the caricatures of William Hogarth, born in 1697.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few popular YouTube videos that identify movie shots explicitly inspired by paintings. Cinephiles call this sort of shot a tableau vivant, or \u201cliving picture\u201d\u2014a live-action recreation of a still image. One of the most striking tableaux vivants appears in the prologue to Melancholia (2011), shot by Manuel Alberto Claro, and evokes Sir John Everett Millais\u2019s Pre-Raphaelite masterwork Ophelia (1851\u201352).<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"part2\">Movie art<\/h2>\n<p>Movie posters, wall art, and movie artwork were staples in every room during the &#8217;90s.
